Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup of milk (dairy or non-dairy)
- 1 tablespoon of sakura (cherry blossom) syrup
- 1 teaspoon of matcha powder (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon of sugar (adjust to taste)
- 1/4 cup of hot water
- Whipped cream (for topping, optional)
- Edible cherry blossoms (for garnish, optional)
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup of water and 1 cup of sugar over medium heat. Stir until the sugar completely dissolves.
- Add 1/2 cup of dried cherry blossoms to the saucepan and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.
- Allow the syrup to simmer for about 10-15 minutes until the color changes and the aroma of cherry blossoms fills the kitchen.
- Remove from heat and let the syrup cool. Strain through a fine mesh sieve to remove the cherry blossoms. Store in a clean bottle or jar in the refrigerator for up to a month.
- Heat 1 cup of milk on the stovetop or in the microwave until hot but not boiling.
- If using matcha, whisk 1 teaspoon of matcha powder with 1/4 cup of hot water in a small bowl until smooth and frothy.
- Froth the heated milk if desired, using a milk frother or whisk.
- In a large mug, combine 1 tablespoon of sakura syrup, 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract, and 1 tablespoon of sugar. Add matcha if using, and stir until the sugar dissolves.
- Slowly pour the hot milk into the mug, stirring gently to combine. Adjust sweetness with more sakura syrup or sugar if desired.
- Top the latte with whipped cream if desired.
- For presentation, sprinkle matcha powder on top of the whipped cream or drizzle sakura syrup over it. Garnish with edible cherry blossoms.
- Serve immediately while warm and enjoy!
Notes
- For a stronger cherry flavor, increase the sakura syrup and adjust sweetness accordingly.
- For a vegan version, use almond milk, oat milk, or any non-dairy milk.
- Experiment with toppings like crushed nuts, chocolate shavings, or cinnamon for a unique twist.
- To make an iced version, let the milk cool and pour over ice, or blend with ice for a frozen treat.
