Description
Crispy Fried Mushrooms are a tasty appetizer featuring fresh mushrooms coated in a seasoned batter and fried until golden brown. Perfect for sharing, these crunchy bites are best served warm with a squeeze of lemon for added flavor.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound fresh mushrooms (button or cremini)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup breadcrumbs (panko for extra crunch)
- Vegetable oil (for frying)
- Fresh parsley (for garnish, optional)
- Lemon wedges (for serving, optional)
Instructions
- Clean the mushrooms using a damp paper towel to wipe off dirt. Avoid rinsing under water. Slice the mushrooms into even pieces, about 1/4 inch thick, and set aside.
- In a shallow dish, mix the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper. In another bowl, whisk the eggs. In a third dish, place the breadcrumbs.
- Dip each mushroom slice into the flour mixture, then into the egg wash, and finally roll in the breadcrumbs. Place the breaded mushrooms on a plate and let them sit for about 10 minutes.
- Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Test the oil by dropping in a small piece of bread; if it sizzles, it’s ready. Fry the mushrooms in batches for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown. Use a slotted spoon to transfer them to a plate lined with paper towels.
- Sprinkle with extra salt while hot, garnish with fresh parsley, and serve warm with lemon wedges on the side.
Notes
- For added heat, mix cayenne pepper into the flour mixture.
- Grated Parmesan cheese can be added to the breadcrumbs for extra flavor.
- Ensure not to overcrowd the pan while frying to maintain the oil temperature.
