Description

This Croque Monsieur Chevre Pesto is a delightful twist on a classic French sandwich, combining creamy goat cheese and vibrant pesto for a flavor explosion. Perfect for brunch, lunch, or dinner, this recipe will impress your guests and satisfy your cravings.

Ingredients

  • White bread or pain de mie (or whole grain/gluten-free bread)
  • Goat cheese (chèvre)
  • Pesto (homemade or store-bought)
  • Beef ham
  • Unsalted butter (or vegan butter/olive oil)
  • Eggs (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Take slices of your chosen bread and lay them out on a clean surface. Spread a thin layer of butter on one side of each slice.
  3. On the non-buttered side of half the slices, spread a generous layer of pesto.
  4. On top of the pesto, crumble or spread the goat cheese, and then layer on the beef ham. Top it off with more goat cheese for extra creaminess.
  5. Place another slice of bread on top, buttered side facing out. Press down gently to help the layers stick together.
  6. Heat a skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the assembled sandwich and cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
  7. After toasting in the skillet, transfer the sandwiches to the preheated oven and bake for an additional 5-7 minutes.
  8. Once done, remove from the oven and let cool for a minute. If desired, top with a fried or poached egg before serving.
