Ingredients
Scale
- 1 package of crescent roll dough (8 oz)
- 8 breakfast sausages (links or patties)
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard (optional)
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup (optional)
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Cooking spray or parchment paper (for baking)
Instructions
- In a skillet over medium heat, add the breakfast sausages. Cook links for 8-10 minutes, turning occasionally, or patties for 4-5 minutes on each side until browned and cooked through.
- Remove sausages from the skillet and let them cool slightly on a paper towel.
- Optionally, slice links in half for easier wrapping.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Open the crescent roll dough package and unroll it on a clean surface.
- Cut each triangle in half lengthwise using a pizza cutter or sharp knife.
- Optionally, spread a thin layer of Dijon mustard on each triangle and sprinkle with shredded cheddar cheese.
- Place one sausage at the wide end of a triangle of dough.
- Roll the dough around the sausage, tucking the point underneath to secure it.
- Repeat for all sausages and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or greased with cooking spray.
- Beat the egg in a small bowl to create an egg wash.
- Brush the egg wash over each wrapped sausage and sprinkle with salt and pepper.
- Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown and cooked through.
- Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
- For added flavor, consider using different types of cheese or adding spices to the egg wash.
- These can be made ahead of time and frozen before baking. Just add a few extra minutes to the baking time if baking from frozen.
