  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x

Description

These Pigs in Blanket are a fun and easy appetizer featuring breakfast sausages wrapped in flaky crescent roll dough. Perfect for parties or as a tasty snack, they can be served with a variety of dipping sauces for added flavor. Enjoy these crowd-pleasers at your next gathering!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package of crescent roll dough (8 oz)
  • 8 breakfast sausages (links or patties)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup (optional)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Cooking spray or parchment paper (for baking)

Instructions

  1. In a skillet over medium heat, add the breakfast sausages. Cook links for 8-10 minutes, turning occasionally, or patties for 4-5 minutes on each side until browned and cooked through.
  2. Remove sausages from the skillet and let them cool slightly on a paper towel.
  3. Optionally, slice links in half for easier wrapping.
  4. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  5. Open the crescent roll dough package and unroll it on a clean surface.
  6. Cut each triangle in half lengthwise using a pizza cutter or sharp knife.
  7. Optionally, spread a thin layer of Dijon mustard on each triangle and sprinkle with shredded cheddar cheese.
  8. Place one sausage at the wide end of a triangle of dough.
  9. Roll the dough around the sausage, tucking the point underneath to secure it.
  10. Repeat for all sausages and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or greased with cooking spray.
  11. Beat the egg in a small bowl to create an egg wash.
  12. Brush the egg wash over each wrapped sausage and sprinkle with salt and pepper.
  13. Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven.
  14. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown and cooked through.
  15. Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For added flavor, consider using different types of cheese or adding spices to the egg wash.
  • These can be made ahead of time and frozen before baking. Just add a few extra minutes to the baking time if baking from frozen.
