  • Author: Clara
  • Total Time: 15 minutes
  • Yield: 4-6 servings 1x

Description

This Balsamic Strawberry Caprese Salad offers a delightful blend of sweet strawberries, creamy mozzarella, and fresh basil, all enhanced by a tangy balsamic dressing. It’s a perfect appetizer or light lunch that captures the essence of summer in every bite.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 8 ounces fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced
  • 1 cup fresh basil leaves
  • 3 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • Salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon honey (optional, for sweetness)

Instructions

  1. Wash the strawberries under cold water. Use a paring knife to hull them, removing the green tops. Slice into thin rounds or halves.
  2. Slice the fresh mozzarella cheese into rounds about 1/4 inch thick. Alternatively, use mozzarella balls (bocconcini) for a rustic look.
  3. Rinse the basil leaves under cold water and pat dry. Leave whole or tear into smaller pieces for a more intense flavor.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk together balsamic vinegar and extra virgin olive oil. If desired, add honey for sweetness.
  5. Add a pinch of salt and freshly ground black pepper to the dressing. Adjust seasoning to taste.
  6. On a serving platter or individual plates, layer the salad starting with mozzarella, followed by strawberries, and then basil. Repeat until all ingredients are used.
  7. Drizzle the balsamic dressing generously over the assembled salad.
  8. Sprinkle additional salt and pepper over the salad. Add any leftover basil leaves for garnish.
  9. Let the salad sit for 10-15 minutes before serving to meld flavors, or serve immediately if short on time.
  10. Serve as an appetizer, side dish, or light lunch. Enjoy the delightful combination of flavors!

Notes

  • Use the freshest strawberries and mozzarella available. Heirloom tomatoes can be a great addition.
  • Customize with sliced avocados, toasted pine nuts, or feta cheese.
  • Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator, but best enjoyed fresh.
  • Pairs well with grilled chicken, fish, or a crusty baguette, and a glass of chilled white wine.
  • Use a ring mold for an elegant presentation at dinner parties.
