Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (preferably panko)
  • 1/4 cup green onions, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
  • 1/4 cup hoisin sauce
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • Sesame seeds, for garnish
  • Extra green onions, for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground turkey, breadcrumbs, chopped green onions, minced garlic, and grated ginger.
  2. Add the egg, soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Mix everything together using your hands until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
  3. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for about 30 minutes.
  4. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  5. Using a cookie scoop or your hands, take about 1.5 tablespoons of the meat mixture and roll it into a ball. Place the meatballs on the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each one.
  6. Repeat until all the mixture is used, yielding about 20-24 meatballs.
  7. Bake the meatballs in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until cooked through and golden brown (internal temperature should reach 165°F/74°C).
  8. While baking, prepare the glaze by combining hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, and honey in a small saucepan over medium heat until simmering.
  9. In a separate bowl, mix cornstarch and water until smooth. Add this mixture to the simmering sauce and stir well. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until thickened, then remove from heat.
  10. Once the meatballs are done, transfer them to a large mixing bowl.
  11. Pour the glaze over the meatballs and gently toss to coat evenly.
  12. For a caramelized finish, return the glazed meatballs to the baking sheet and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes.
  13. Serve the glazed meatballs warm, garnished with sesame seeds and extra green onions.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, increase the amount of red pepper flakes.
  • These meatballs can be served as an appetizer or over rice for a complete meal.
