Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground turkey
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (preferably panko)
- 1/4 cup green onions, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
- 1/4 cup hoisin sauce
- 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon water
- Sesame seeds, for garnish
- Extra green onions, for garnish
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground turkey, breadcrumbs, chopped green onions, minced garlic, and grated ginger.
- Add the egg, soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Mix everything together using your hands until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
- Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for about 30 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Using a cookie scoop or your hands, take about 1.5 tablespoons of the meat mixture and roll it into a ball. Place the meatballs on the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each one.
- Repeat until all the mixture is used, yielding about 20-24 meatballs.
- Bake the meatballs in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until cooked through and golden brown (internal temperature should reach 165°F/74°C).
- While baking, prepare the glaze by combining hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, and honey in a small saucepan over medium heat until simmering.
- In a separate bowl, mix cornstarch and water until smooth. Add this mixture to the simmering sauce and stir well. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until thickened, then remove from heat.
- Once the meatballs are done, transfer them to a large mixing bowl.
- Pour the glaze over the meatballs and gently toss to coat evenly.
- For a caramelized finish, return the glazed meatballs to the baking sheet and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes.
- Serve the glazed meatballs warm, garnished with sesame seeds and extra green onions.
Notes
- For a spicier kick, increase the amount of red pepper flakes.
- These meatballs can be served as an appetizer or over rice for a complete meal.
