Ingredients
Scale
- 4 medium-sized apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
- 2 cups fresh blackberries
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Peel and core the apples, then slice them into thin wedges, about 1/4 inch thick.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples and blackberries.
- Add the lemon juice, granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, and salt to the fruit mixture. Toss gently until well coated.
- Set the fruit mixture aside to let the flavors meld.
- In a separate mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, rolled oats, and brown sugar. Stir until evenly mixed.
- Pour in the melted butter and vanilla extract. Mix with a fork or pastry cutter until a crumbly texture forms. Do not overmix.
- Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray.
- Pour the prepared fruit mixture into the bottom of the baking dish, spreading it evenly.
- Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the fruit layer.
- Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for about 35-40 minutes, until the topping is golden brown and the fruit is bubbling.
- For an extra crispy topping, broil for an additional 2-3 minutes, watching closely to prevent burning.
- Remove from the oven and let cool for 10-15 minutes before serving.
- Serve warm, with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat individual portions as desired.
