Description

Enjoy a warm and comforting Apple Blackberry Crumble, featuring a sweet and tangy fruit filling beneath a crunchy oat topping. This delightful dessert is perfect for gatherings and pairs beautifully with vanilla ice cream.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 medium-sized apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 2 cups fresh blackberries
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Peel and core the apples, then slice them into thin wedges, about 1/4 inch thick.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples and blackberries.
  4. Add the lemon juice, granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, and salt to the fruit mixture. Toss gently until well coated.
  5. Set the fruit mixture aside to let the flavors meld.
  6. In a separate mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, rolled oats, and brown sugar. Stir until evenly mixed.
  7. Pour in the melted butter and vanilla extract. Mix with a fork or pastry cutter until a crumbly texture forms. Do not overmix.
  8. Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray.
  9. Pour the prepared fruit mixture into the bottom of the baking dish, spreading it evenly.
  10. Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the fruit layer.
  11. Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for about 35-40 minutes, until the topping is golden brown and the fruit is bubbling.
  12. For an extra crispy topping, broil for an additional 2-3 minutes, watching closely to prevent burning.
  13. Remove from the oven and let cool for 10-15 minutes before serving.
  14. Serve warm, with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
  15. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat individual portions as desired.

Notes

  • Feel free to mix in other berries or fruits for a unique twist.
  • Adjust the sugar based on the sweetness of your apples and blackberries.
